Why Do I need an Interior Designer?
People have many reasons for working with a designer. While it may seem like an extravagance, I am firmly of the belief that a well-designed home can be truly life enhancing.
While there is no “typical” client, people who work with me tend to fall into one or more of the below categories:
They have an interest in interiors, know they want a pulled together and considered look but they don’t have the time or know-how to make it happen. I can’t describe what a huge relief it is to these clients to be able to outsource the headaches that come with a renovation project.
They have a fear of making expensive mistakes. Bathrooms in particular come up a lot as pain-points with clients and its easy to understand why. When you’re investing in a big-ticket item with finishes that are not quick or easy to change its important to get it right first time. A designer will be able to relieve this anxiety using fabric samples, mood boards and rendered visualisations so you can be sure what the finished room will look like. As designers, we come across similar problems across all the homes we work in so we can often pre-empt issues before they arise, saving clients time and money.
They have a suite of rooms (for example a bedroom, dressing room and en-suite) and want them to flow beautifully. A designer will give consideration to sightlines and keeping the same visual language throughout the full suite of rooms.
Often clients don’t want or need their entire home renovated but struggle to find a designer who will agree to design just one or two rooms.
In Tunbridge Wells we are lucky to have many beautiful period properties, but the reality is that older homes do not always adequately accomodate modern living; They often lack storage, have awkward corners, an ineffiecient layout, not to mention the ‘improvements’ made by generations of previous owners. An interior designer can help find the best solution to these problems.
Sometimes clients have already recognised that a loft conversion could help them make more efficient use of their existing space, but are left cold with their boring white box after construction is completed. You don’t want to be disappointed after having spent a lot of money to try and improve your home! The best results are achieved when an interior designer is drafted in at planning stage so that everything down to switch and socket positionss can be thought out before work commences.
